Dancing
Introduction
Dancing as a sport. Types of dances and classification. Canonized and non-canonized dances. The why, the what and the how. How I got involved in dancing.
Ballroom ettiquete
The social aspects of dancing. How to behave in a ballroom. How not to behave in a ballroom. Connection to the behavior in real life. Social yes, personal no.
Standard competition dances
Slow waltz
The fairy-tale dance between a prince and a princess. The art of combining motion and music, at its extreme.
Waltz
Fast paced, simple yet hard, a dance for the reception at a royal palace, and not only in Vienna!
Ballroom tango
Powerful... Theatrical... Passionate... The man, the woman, and their relationship --- on steroids!
Quickstep
Want to show-off with your speed? Your skill? Your wit? Your partner? This dance is faster than the waltz!
Slowfox
Cool, modern, fancy, with the most beautiful and fulfilling melodies --- the hardest dance in existence.
Latin competition dances
Samba
Fluid, voluminous, neverending, and with unprecedented beats and rythms! Very hard to practice, and equally rewarding to dance.
Rumba
The slow and elengat dance of romance, love, seduction, beauty and attractiveness. Emphasize the man in a man, and the woman in a woman, to the extreme.
Cha cha cha
Speed, precision, power, and glorious rythms. The ultimate proving ground for dancing skills. Extraordinary mix of music, motion and excitement!
Pasodoble
The elegance of a man outwitting the raw power of a bull, using nothing but his movement and the subtle motion of his beautiful and sensitive cape.
Jive
Wanna have fun? Jump around? Kick, twist, drop, yaw, pitch and roll? The rythm to which one just cannot stand still...
Non-canonized dances
Foxtrot
The precursor of quickstep and slowfox. Lightweight, moderate-paced, friendly and charming. The easiest standard dance there is.
Mambo
A dance where precision meets music. Move all the time, but stand still at each principal beat! Only the skillful can master it.
Salsa
A simplified, dumbed-down version of mambo, crossbread with samba-like motion. The only dance one can learn in a month.
Rock'n'roll
Is the beat too fast for jive? Then dance rock'n'roll! The traditional version for golden oldie melodies, and the disco version for the new, cool, modern disco music.
Merenge
One of the simplest, yet most engaging dances ever! There are no steps, no positions, no fancy moves --- just you, your partner, and the rythm in your bodies!
Boogie woogie
A rare, fast-paced, and lively dance from the jive family. And the extraordinary music, which simply cannot be ignored.
Lindy hop
A precursor of jive, rock'n'roll, swing and boogie woogie. Jump, kick, fling, tap, move and roll! Fast and fancy!
Bossanova
The after-party, 4am, dawn-and-yawn dance. You and your partner are still on your feet? This is the way to relax.
Swing
The very skillful and most subtle dance in the jive family. Fling your partner around in an artistically leisured motion, while enjoying the moderate-paced playful music.
Brazilian samba
The "native" samba, fast-paced, with furious rythms! The only dance for couples where there are no couples!
Argentinian tango
Only one way to describe it: oxytocin overdose.
